Water UK held its fifth innovation hub on Wednesday 9 July, where 80 delegates from across the industry and stakeholder community came together to share best practice and take further their understanding of customer engagement, in shaping the future for the sector.

The event reflected on the success of how far the Water Industry has come in aiming to connect with consumers and it provided a platform for delegates to look ahead at developing strategies that will successfully reach all customers.

"Excellent event that promotes innovation in the industry and emphasises that the industry genuinely cares about the needs and views of its customers" UKWIR

From thought-provoking perspectives on embedding a customer-focused culture by Accenture, Barclays, Henley Centre for Customer Management and MWH to informed presentations on debt and affordability and an address from Angela Smith MP, Shadow Minister for Water, the day provided a necessary platform for industry stakeholders to dig deeper into understanding customer needs and how they could take this forward.

"Good external perspectives and a great mix of attendees" South West Water

"I really enjoyed the session involving Metro Bank and Barclays and I feel that the utility industry can learn from the banking sector" Balfour Beatty

This was proven in the rich discussion during the round tables focusing on designing the customer experience. Data, digital channels, meaningful measurements and a joined-up customer encounter were just some of the ideas that came out of the final session. The industry recognises that maintaining a low profile has to be a thing of the past. The point to take away was that it would be the strategies that we develop that will challenge this. Our aim is to be leaders and great examples of ensuring customer satisfaction.

The post-event report is currently being drawn up and we will provide a link to this shortly. If you are interested in receiving this report, please contact the Water UK events team events@water.org.uk
