Water UK held its 15th Annual Leakage Conference in Birmingham, chaired this year by Peter Farrer, Chief Operating Officer of Scottish Water. With over 130 delegates in attendance from water companies, regulators, manufacturers and the wider supply chain, the event proved to have significant industry support.

Ofwat, Environment Agency and the Consumer Council for Water took to the stage to put forward government and regulatory perspectives on outcome delivery incentives, SELL in relation to WRMPs and the business planning cycle from a customer view. This led on to a communication session with Anglian Water, United Utilities and Severn Trent Water which looked at how water companies are using their profile and brand to drive behaviour change, as well as harnessing technology and social media to better inform and align both leakage and communication teams.

While the morning session heard from the regulator and communication experts around leakage management, the afternoon explored operational developments within the industry. A variety of technical topics from transients to domestic night use provided important technical updates.
